Who we are.

History.
The James Connolly Society is a relatively new organisation, founded in January 2010, to encourage political debate on Republican history, comment on those issues currently affecting Republicans and provide an independent perspective and analysis to assist and progress the Republican agenda.

The Society is founded on the principles of the 1916 Proclamation and is dedicated to their promotion. It is an independent organisation which gives no allegiance to any single political organisation. Individual members may favour or be involved with political organisations empathetic to Republican ideals but the society will as a collective body remain independent.

Objectives.
  • To secure an end to British rule in Ireland and the establishment of a united Irish Republic as set out in the Proclamation of Easter 1916.
  • To remember the patriot dead, particularly deceased local Volunteers.
  • To educate people, particularly young people, about Republican issues past, present and future.
  • To liaise and collaborate with other organisations in relation to the promotion of Irish culture (sport, language, music etc).

 Activities.

Specific activities will include:
  • Working closely with the families of local deceased Volunteers to organise and maintain appropriate murals and commemorations.
  • Promoting, facilitating and organising debates, lectures, seminars and discussions on the present and future role of Republicanism locally and nationally.
  • Educating a range of groups through lectures other forms of information so that they will cherish Irish culture.
  • Forming strategic allegiances with like-minded groups and organisations.
  • Raising funds for the purpose of achieving the Society's objectives.
